ABOUT ME

I am a high school English teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools. I have been teaching for nine years in both middle and high school roles. I have a Master’s in Special Education from The George Washington University, and teaching certifications in English and Special Education.

I take great pride in helping students discover ‘Aha!’ moments, and find the confidence they need to be successful. I have found my strengths lie in clear and concise communication, my proactive strategies when anticipating a student’s confusion, and my ability to relate to students and connect school and learning to the bigger picture of our lives.

TEaching philosophy

My philosophy of teaching focuses on learner-centered instruction, real-world application of academic content, and creating a safe, nurturing environment where all students are given the tools and encouragement they need to succeed. Along my path as an educator, I have discovered many quotes about teaching that are in line with my own philosophy of teaching, but these few feel most true to my soul:

“Must we always teach our children with books? Let them look at the stars and the mountains above...the waters, trees, and flowers on Earth. Then they will begin to think. And to think is the beginning of a real education.”

— David Polis

“Even the smallest victory is never to be taken for granted. Each victory must be applauded, because it is so easy not to battle at all, to just accept and call that acceptance is inevitable.”

— Audre Lorde

“Pick and choose, retool and restructure the best of what you find to make it your own. Most of all, watch your children and see what works.”

— Herbert Kohl

“I tell my students, 'When you get these jobs that you have been so brilliantly trained for, just remember that your real job is that if you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else. This is not just a grab-bag candy game.”

— Toni Morrison
